Elko Nevada and My Cowboy Boots

The classic black boots. They go with everything and I have been wearing them almost everyday to work and every where else. This is me in Georgetown after a business meeting.

Recently, I had to go out west to Elko, Nevada for a client project. I know what you are thinking, what’s in Elko? Well, not much by East Coast standards, but the town is small, quiet and full of friendly people. Elko’s population was only 18,297 based on the 2010 census. It’s also known for ranching and mining and you can walk through the whole downtown in 10 minutes. If you drive, make sure to go slow since I actually missed the downtown the first time around without realizing it. The best way to get to Elko from DC is to fly into Salt Lake City and rent a car and drive there. It’s an easy three-hour drive and so beautiful! Just be careful not to speed since most of the time, you may be the only driver on the road. My client recommended this and I am glad I took his advice!

The first time I fell in love with cowboy boots was when I saw the Dallas Cowboy Cheerleaders in them on television the very first month or two after our arrival to the US. Those gals looked so cool and sexy and they were having so much fun wearing them that it made me want to own a pair. Perhaps that is why I like the Dallas Cowboys, for shallow visual reasons. 🙂 Since I have always loved cowboy boots but haven’t owned a real pair since college, I decided that Elko would be a perfect place for me to get a pair. Seven out of every ten individuals I saw there were wearing them!

During my search for the perfect authentic cowboy boots, I came across so many great styles and designs that it was impossible for me to decide. In fact, they were all so great that I decided to get not just one but three pairs, from C-A-L Ranch and Capriolas. I know, it may be a bit extreme, but they are the real authentic cowboy boots. I am a touchy feely old-fashioned kind of girl in that way and I don’t really shop online much, especially for special items like this. I love the experience of stimulating my senses by shopping at a store, not to mention meeting new people and getting to know them is often fascinating to me.

Also, if you are ever out in Elko, do not leave without going to dinner at The Star Hotel, a Basque family style restaurant serving great European food in an old world atmosphere. Be sure that you are hungry when you go because they serve A LOT of food. Even if boots and belt buckles aren’t your thing, I still recommend a visit to Capriolas and meet the owner Doug and his guys (pictured below) if you are passing through the town.
